From Sofa Saga to A Few Fiascos: Week Two of the #SubspaceSwag Makeover Journey

If there is one thing that freaks out interior design clients, it’s project drama. Yet behind the scenes, there's sometimes a touch of drama that even the most polished project can't escape. And as you’re about to see, this happens even on our own home projects. Each twist and turn adds to the allure of the final transformation.

Welcome to Week Two with some highlights of the behind-the-scenes chaos happening on the #SubspaceSwag makeover journey, where multiple concept iterations and a little project drama played a major role.

If you're wondering why you're seeing another mood board, you're not seeing double. Clients working with a professional interior designer typically only see the final concept, with a few options. But in this case, I am my own client and designer,. As such I have the pleasure (or pain) of navigating through several concepts before landing on the ultimate vision.

But let's dive into the recap of Week One. We kicked things off with gusto, finally bidding farewell to the old sofa that had overstayed its welcome for far too long. And oh, did I mention we had to cut it in half to get it out? Yes, you read that right! However, the removal process didn't go exactly as planned, resulting in a comedy of errors that included destroyed slate floors, holes in the walls, and a broken back door window. Lesson learned: never underestimate the power of a stubborn sofa! Needless to say, this fiasco has now expanded my ORC plans.

As they say, with great struggle comes great expansion of plans. This unexpected fiasco early in the event has led to a strategic pivot, ensuring that our #SubspaceSwag makeover remains on track.

Despite the hiccups, we managed to check off everything on our Week One checklist. Now, as we enter Week Two, aptly dubbed "A Push Before the PUSH," the to-do list remains substantial. The One Room Challenge mantra rings true: push hard in the beginning to pave the way for smoother sailing ahead.

Tasks range from installing wall boxes and fluting to hanging wallpaper and threading under cabinet lighting. And of course, there are the inevitable curveballs, like forgetting crucial supplies or chasing down elusive deliveries.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Linda Weinstein for hosting the One Room Challenge and to Apartment Therapy for their invaluable media coverage.

Stay tuned as we navigate the highs and lows of Week Two, fueled by determination and a healthy dose of humor. Until next time, let's keep pushing onward and upward!
