If ever there was a home decor trend that no one really saw coming- including the company partially responsible for its concept- it would have to be the now infamous Cloud couch and all that surrounds it. While Restoration Hardware (RH) produces many other luxury sofas, the Cloud is by far the most widely known of the RH brand.

Launched in 2015, the Restoration Hardware Cloud couch is a customizable modular sectional, with cushions wrapped 100-percent in goose down feathers. Since its debut, the sofa has quickly morphed into a symbol of luxury furniture. And like many other famous single-named celebrities, the Cloud has developed a strong cult-following. Regardless of how you personally feel about this sofa (or about RH for that matter), its appeal and staying power is shockingly undeniable.

Why Is the RH Cloud In Such High Demand?

The iconic shape and design of the Cloud is but one of the driving forces behind the influx of copycat versions popping up on the websites of stores like Restoration Hardware. The hefty price tag is another reason. It is a well known fact that we humans have a tendency to crave after things we really can't afford. And the staggering 8 to 20 thousand dollar price tag of this sofa (depending on the configuration) has people sticker shocked and clamoring for affordable dupes to create their own version of the modern Restoration Hardware look for less.

Above is a photo I took of an enormous Cloud sectional that was on display when I visited the Chicago Restoration Hardware furniture store and restaurant back in 2017. I didn't even know what a cloud sofa was at the time. Still, the 15-foot beauty stopped me dead in my tracks.

Recently, I received a request for an affordable RH inspired living room design. Once the agreement was signed, down the rabbit hole I went.
