The Friday Fix: Revealing a Quick and Easy Hallway Refresh

Hallway, Entryway Refresh

Spring has FINALLY decided to visit the Chicagoland area!  We actually hit 80 degrees this week.  Woo hoo!

Recall that in this post I revealed that I am not a seasonal decorator.  This is still true.  In that same post, I explained that being a non-seasonal decorator doesn't mean that I don't share the excitement of the changing seasons.  Far from it.  I just find other ways to express it.

Summer is hands down, my favorite season of the year.  And all this warm weather has me craving lighter more airy interiors. Follow along as I reveal this quick and easy hallway refresh.

Remember that I vamped up the style in this long narrow hallway last year during the One Room Challenge.  I loved adding that saturated magenta color to this area of our home (below).

Choosing Great Foundation Pieces for a Makeover

Indeed there is something to be said about choosing great foundation pieces during a renovation.  They allow a homeowner a ton of flexibility when changing the decor.  The wallpaper I chose for this space had been on my wishlist for at least a year or more.  Its tropical bohemian vibe could not have been a more perfect choice.

I happen to have a serious crush on anything -  decor, accessories or otherwise -  that reminds me of places where the temperature is hot - not warm - HOT.    A few simple adjustments were all that was needed to transform this hallway into a semi-tropical oasis.   Let me show you what I mean.

For those of you just joining me, the tribal necklaces shown in both makeovers were made using pistachio nut shells and leftover jewelry pieces among other things.  If you'd like to make your own (the real ones are crazy expensive), you can view the detailed tutorial here

This impactful change was achieved by simply, swapping out the heavy  winter-like accessories with more airy ones.  The total cost was less than $20 for the white ceramic vase and the gold lotus candle.

It took a couple of days for The Husband to absorb the new look (perfectly normal).  When he did, you longtime readers know what the signature response was... You know what to do...hold your nose and say "whaaaow!"  That means that this hallway refresh is Husband-approved!  And that folks, is this week's Friday Fix.

Please tell me in the comments below, is there an area of your home that could use a quick and simple refresh?

UPDATE:  I cannot tell you how many comments I've received from readers expressing concern over the placement of the small console.  Thank you so much for your concern!  While it may appear enormous in the photos, the console is just under 11" deep.  This gives us ample room to move about the staircase. Surprising I know, but it works.  After nearly a year, I'm happy to say that we've had no disasters.  Thank you SO much for all the thoughtful emails, direct messages and passion over what we're creating here!  Much respect!
