One Room Challenge: Polishing a Diamond in the Rough

ORC Week 4 of 7

Welcome to Week 4 of the One Room Challenge hosted by Linda of CallingItHome and media sponsor House Beautiful

Little by little this forgotten space of my home is becoming a tiny gem.  We're talking of course about my hallway makeover.  Such a minuscule space— just a 14-foot long stair climb through a 36-inch wide passageway.  Yet it seems to be transforming right before my eyes into something grander than I ever thought possible.

However, just as the process of extracting literal diamonds is laborious, so this overhaul has been.

I finally got around installing the wallpaper.  Face-to-face it is absolutely swoonworthy.  I'm so glad I stepped outside of my comfort zone with the pattern.  Now I just have to figure out a way to capture it effectively in my styling and photos.

So what else is left to complete on my to-do list?  Let's take a look.

As a reminder, below is the inspiration board.  Some items have been substituted with others like the mirror, the table and accessories...and maybe even the wallpaper.  He, he...  Okay so EVERY item purchased for the actual room is completely different.   But I did warn you that would happen remember?

On a more serious note,  I have two more daunting dilemmas.  The first is my so-called DIY non-electrical light fixture.  This one is a doozy!   If I have it figured out by next week, I'll be sure to post it for you.  But for now, it looks like it might not make it to the final reveal.  But you know me, I'll  keep at it until someone yells "time-up, tools down" Wish me the best!

The second problem has to do with the stain color for the floors.  This should have been the easiest part of the entire process.  HOWEVER,  my darling Mista' and I can't seem to agree on a final color.  Below is a snapshot of my Instagram poll which appeared in the IG Stories.

Would you like to know the results of the poll?  Well that makes two of us.  Ha, ha!   You see... the poll results disappear within 24 hours along with the "story".  So, if you forget to check back before the expiration time (which is what I did) the results are gone forever.  Genius.  Nevertheless, my gut feeling is telling me that most people chose option A.  What say you?

Finally, last week I promised to give you a secret look at some of the interesting pieces I found to style the space.

That's it!  Just a teeny weeny peek.  What do you think?  Please let me know in the comments below:

  • Which stain do you like best?
  • What do you think of the items I found for the space?
  • What do you place in the foyer of your home?

While you're leaving a comment, I'll get back to work on my project.  If you missed the previous weeks, I've linked them below.  Chow!
